Recomendations
The quality of an interpreter’s work will also depend on the original speech delivered by the speaker. How can speakers help interpreters? Here are our recommendations for clients:
Recommendations regarding speakers
- The interpreter aims to convey the speaker’s message as accurately as possible. To this end, we recommend providing them with all available documentation (PowerPoint presentations, notes, etc.) so that they can familiarise themselves with any technical terms, company-specific or sector-specific terminology, and, ultimately, prepare for the assignment in advance. Naturally, interpreters will maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding any documentation received.
- Speakers should avoid reading from a document aloud during their speech, as they tend to speak faster than usual, thereby making the interpreter’s job more difficult. If this is not possible, it is recommended that a copy of the document in question be provided to the interpreters.
- It is also important that the speaker speaks clearly and finishes their sentences.
Recommendations regarding technical equipment
- If you decide to hire the booths and equipment yourself, make sure they comply with ISO standards. These standards ensure that certain requirements regarding sound insulation, lighting, ventilation, etc. are met.
- Body language also helps to convey the message more accurately. Therefore, if you wish to hire the booths yourself, you should bear in mind that they should, wherever possible, be positioned so that the interpreters can see the speakers.
